The Evil Twin crew has been hard at work visiting dog shows with photographer Kate Lacey in preparation for SHOW DOGS: A PHOTOGRAPHIC BREED GUIDE. The book will be available in September 2010. "The Sundown Salon Unfolding Archive"
A project by Fritz Haeg

For 6 years, Fritz Haeg opened his Los Angeles home to ideas and art through events, happenings, gatherings, meetings, pageantry, performances, shows, stunts and spectacles framed and affected by his unique house which included a subterranean cave, a geodesic dome, and a series of garden spaces. This special artists book documents the Sundown Salon events and also shares participants reflections on the idea of salons and the nature of viewing and making art communally and for a domestic space. "The Sundown Salon Unfolding Archive" is both a book and an exhibition: It is printed as one long accordian fold paper. The text can be flipped through and read like a book, and the pictures can be unfurled to a 140 foot long art piece. The book has been conceived by Fritz in collaboration with Evil Twin Publications' Stacy Wakefield. It will be released in June 2009 in a limited edition of 500 copies.

A selection of drawings, made by Salon participants, will be hand-screened in different configurations, making each cover unique.

The book will be available from both Evil Twin and Distributed Art Publishers in New York.

This weekend Stacy and Nick used the facilities at Booklyn Artists' Alliance to letterpress LP packaging for a new limited edition Christmas Decorations record. Its called "Far Flung Hum" and will be the first release on Wodger this spring.

In the year that has passed since we unveiled the artists project "Untitled Book (Geometry + Democracy)" by Allyson Vieira and Stacy Wakefield Forte, it has been acquired for several museum and library collections. Numbered copies now reside happily in fine company at The Tate, Britain; the Brooklyn Museum; The British Museum; The Universities of Wisconsin at Madison and Milwaukee; Trinity College; Reed College; the University of Washington Art Library; Wellsley College; Yale's Sterling Library; and Harvard University.

Speedometer
(from Hometown Interstate-5)

When I took the wheel I took the challenge
I moved my eyes up from their usual spot
a few feet before the flat front end
and looked up two car lengths.
A weight lifted from my mind and settled on the gas pedal
the speedometer creaked upwards.
My grip was light and steady
I felt like a ghost
my hair flew straight out behind me like flames
my eyes burned hazel night lights into the darkness
I have nothing to lose.
There's nothing going to get lost
just this one last ride to live through.

The highway is violent
concrete and unforgiving
points of light burst like mosquitos, murdered on my windshield.
America is built on steel and these bossy parallel lines
the perfectly straight road pushes on and on and on.

I went to Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China where there are 2,000 printing plants and tons of american books are produced. I was on a press check trip to another printer for a job, but i also got to meet Rex Lau of wafai graphic arts whose company has produced the evil twin books Catholic No.1:CATS (the hardcover edition), Bo's Arts, and Untitled Book (Geometry + Democracy). Here's Rex and I eating a pigeon in Shenzhen.
